Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
PJ Blackherz captured herself enjoying a lovely day on her patio. The dogs seem to like the weather as well. If they were real life dogs, I would fret about them accidentally going between the railings and falling. I have a similar patio IRL though only half as deep, so it’s fairly useless. I lined it with bird mesh to keep my cat from jumping from the fourth floor. They are very nearsighted and it’s all a blur past 20 feet for cats and dogs. I kind of love this picture just because it captures the odd mix of pleasure and ennui that a hot summer day can create.

The title of this picture made me laugh out loud. “Doing nothing is very hard. You never know when you’re finished.” That kind of circles around the idea of pleasure and ennui I mentioned with the first picture. There is an art to doing nothing and few people have mastered it. It’s clear PJ struggles, too.

“Muromachi Street” finds us out on the balcony again. She’s got a nice, hot cup of coffee and seems to be taking a short break. She’s on a busy urban street so perhaps she is at work in a restaurant down below and catching her chance to relax before the next rush of customers. Perhaps she has an apartment upstairs of a business, a common city way of life. Her balcony is more like mine, standing room only.
PJ Blackherz has a beautiful stream of photos. Many are not appropriate for work, but they are still beautiful. Many are simply risqué or suggestive of things unseen. Many are light-hearted and others are contemplative. What unifies them is her attention to detail, creating an emotional effect with her art, and then there is something ineffable. The closest I can come to describing what her work makes me feel is a sense of gentle kindness. Maybe it’s all the dogs…
