Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Elspeth Apricitty Poe takes pictures for her own enjoyment. Fortunately for us, she shares them on Flickr. This pic caught my eye. It is a lovely pic, but what drew me is how artfully she shares a quiet, ordinary moment. Who hasn’t enjoyed a beautiful day by sitting outside on the steps with the morning coffee or tea? Browsing her stream, it seems that Elspeth’s true magic is taking the quotidian and making it special. I love that. As for her, she downplays her artistry. This is from her About Page. “When I am inspired, even sometimes when I am simply bored, I attempt to express myself. Maybe I will succeed some day. Perhaps I will entertain or intrigue you briefly while on my way. It is a journey I have chosen primarily for my own sake, but you are welcome to observe.”

“Sensations” captures her “taste-testing” some spaghetti before serving. She’s eating that sample with her fingers and….why not? There is only one plate, so she may be eating alone. Her wine is right there, so she is probably going to eat in the kitchen in her underwear. If you tell me you have never done that, I will suspect you’re a forgetful person.
In college, I was invited to a dinner at a professor’s home. He and his wife were Urdu and she made this fantastic meal. There were other students, mostly from Iran and India. The main course had been served and some folks were adding seconds to their plates when someone mentioned eating with their fingers. As the only non-Urdu person there, his wife asked if I would mind. Of course not. My roommates were from Malaysia and had already encouraged me to eat that way and taught me the etiquette. Suddenly everyone wanted seconds and the whole table of people relaxed and were so much more joyful and someone said, “Food is so much more satisfying this way.” I think that’s true.
You really should click through, and let Elspeth tell you that there are more than five senses, and even more than the sixth, there is a seventh. And I’m not telling.
She used a quote from famed environmental pioneer Rachel Carson, “ "Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts." She’s close to the ocean in a beachfront cabin and the sun is bright, casting a halo as seen by the camera. I think Carson said what Elspeth wanted to say as she did not write much in the description, just a teleport link so you, too, can contemplate the vastness of the ocean and the sky and find your own reserves of strength.
Elspeth Apricitty Poe gives us gorgeous photos and frequently includes teleport links so you, too, can enjoy the scene. I love the subtle, quiet humor that is so much a part of her work, sometimes it’s just the smile on her face, not a big grin, but the kind of smile that keeps to itself. She loves the ocean and many of her pictures are shot on beaches or rocky coastlines. She works equally well in black and white and color, but I love her black and white shots. There’s an honesty to her work. She says she’s not a photographer, probably her only dishonest thing in her entire stream.
