Inspired by Imogen Aurelia's call for a "Blackout August", in which the Second Life community takes a break from crowded, frustrating weekend shopping events, here are three gorgeous SL mainstores to visit and explore for fun and photographs, as well as shopping –recommended and photographed by Imogen herself.
First, above, is Bumrose Club & Equilibrium, a lovely tropical island cove that also sells furniture with spicy animations: Click here to teleport.
Next up — bunnehs and tundra!
Above is a bird's eye (bunnies' eye?) view from K&S Store ~ Moon Rabbit Store, a sim shared by two brands.
"I aways spent too much [there]," Imogen tells me. "K&S has the best backgrounds for photographers, and Moon Rabbit has fun things."
Finally, above, is RichB.
"I know it is just a simple build," Imogen allows, "but I like that it looks like it is set in the arctic."
Same! I actually enjoy apocalyptic / epic-themed mainstores like this most. Because why shop somewhere that looks like any random upscale shopping mall in real life, when you can shop in, say, what looks like a science lab built on the blasted tundra?
Thanks to Imogen for the tips, and the "Blackout August" idea too. While some SLers complained this was tantamount to "boycotting" SL merchants, remember that most Second Life brands actually make more L$ from sales in their mainstores. (Read about that and more in my 2025 economy report.)
