Sadie Zee gives us “Octopus’ Garden,” a fantastic picture I discovered while looking around for pictures of octopi and after reading an article about how a scientist at Oxford thinks they may replace humans as the apex species on Earth if we bring about our extinction. I haven’t read his book, The Universal History of Us, yet, but I have added it to Mt. TBR (To Be Read)

Sylvia Sable posted “Beware the Kraken” is a lovely picture with yet another Octopuses Garden under the sea and in the shade. A colossal squid was photographed for the first time this year. I wonder if that’s the inspiration for the Kraken.
Lalie Sorbet SL posted another great pic of an octopus. She went for a duotone which really emphasized the light on the ocean. There is so much in the news about octopi lately. There’s all sorts of exploration of Octopolis and Octlantis, the two octopus cities on the Great Barrier Reef built and inhabited by the gloomy octopus. I wonder where it got its name?
Octopi are fascinating. There’s the Netflix show My Octopus Teacher. They can do amazing things such as open a jar from the inside. They throw rocks! Female octopi will throw rocks at males that harass them. Perhaps they deserve it, the males of one species of octopus inject tetrodotoxin before mating so the female doesn’t eat them. I was actually slightly disappointed in the paucity of octopus pictures from Second Life. I want more!!!
