Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Dalton Keynes is a Second Life photographer and it shows in the consistent quality of his pictures. What really draws me to his stream, though, is how well his pictures suggest a full life beyond just the head and body of an avatar. There are sensations transmitted via the pixels.
Take “Ripples,” for example. In this picture I see the cool relief of the water in a pool after a hard day. His shirt is still on, suggesting he was urgently in need of the relief. His eyes are closed because that’s what we humans do when we experience that kind of relief. This picture tells us something about the man, a little vignette of life.

“Ain’t So Little Now, Stu” just made me laugh. Just think, is Stu a cat? It made me think of my cats and mice and that time I tried to get my cat to chase a mouse out of the kitchen. The mouse did not run in fear. My cat proceeded to very gently wash the mouse’s face before rolling over on his side so the mouse could climb up on his shoulders and sit on him. Not the least bit afraid. Perhaps they were already acquainted. I learned to tolerate a mouse in the house. This mouse, however, is gangster.
“Bogey” is so earnest. He would be an honest caddy. Not like some. I am sure he would never get a job at a Trump Turnberry. He is the consummate caddy, prepared, thorough, and honest.
Dalton Keynes creates fantastic photos that capture something about the essence of a person. Each picture feels sui generis. I don’t know if they do this in cities, but in small, rural communities, a photographer might advertise in the paper that they will be at the hardware store on Saturday and folks would show up, kids in tow, and everyone would sit in front of a screen, get two snaps taken of the whole family or of individuals, and move on. The photographer would come once a year. Dalton Keynes is the opposite of that.
