Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting

Myrdin Sommer is one of the many people who have embraced Project Mesh Revolution’s fabulous flat avatars. She has even made a few accessories and outfits for them, many of them free or at low cost from her Marketplace store Visual Junkies. Here is “Jimi Cardrix” playing a cardboard guitar in a cardboard world. I love the humor and I love how it reminds me of the glory days of Second Life before getting dressed required an advanced degree.

“Mini Me” is a delightful pic with Myrdin and her flat cat wearing flat black hair and flat cardboard earrings just like her. I love the humor and of course a flat avatar should have a flat cat. There is something very retro about the flat avatars, so of course a 70s-style dress with orange and pink stripes is perfection in styling, too.

“Flat Friday” is another perfect look, slightly diabolical in red and black with a fierce face. She looks like a villain but how perfectly FLAT she is with that background’s dots being imperfectly painted on. If the dots were uniform, the picture would be lesser. Myrdin has an eye for the specific detail that makes a picture congruent and complete. 

Myrdin Sommer’s photostream has always been full of fun and a sense of humor, but her recent foray into Flatland has inspired a wonderful stream of characters that just make me happy. I think they will make you happy, too.

She spends a lot of time researching and reporting on Republican sexual predators. In her first life, she is a retired grassroots leader who has worked for economic and social justice issues most of her life. She is also the minion of a cat named Nora.
