Voodoo Macabre New Orleans

Master sim designer Kaiden Tray has created incredible Second Life environments over the years, from a cyberpunk city swallowed by the jungle to a lovingly detailed tribute to the Bates motel from Hitchcock's Psycho. Kaiden just unveiled his latest sim build:

The Witchcraft & Voodoo in New Orleans: The End [Click to teleport]

Ideal for spooky season events and screenshots, this rendition of New Orleans in Second Life has an amazing, romantic backstory of its own:

"I have always been fascinated by the magical energy and mysticism of New Orleans," Kaiden tells me. "When I began dating my current real life fiancé, I learned that her hometown was New Orleans, and her passion for it inspired me even more."

And yes, they first met in Second Life, introduced by mutual friends.

"I asked her what was it that scared her, and she explained that she was there for the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The thing that had scared her more than anything in her life was the complete silence, darkness and stillness after that massive storm had annihilated the city.

"She told me that if we could replicate something like that, that would be the best Halloween sim possible, and that is what we did. "

So Kaiden created a post-Katrina tragedy New Orleans with the helpful eye of his fiancé, whose avatar is aptly named Voodoo Macabre (aka Pandora Locke Tray, above).

"I have designed and the aesthetics of real-life areas from New Orleans onto the region. She is quite the academic, so she researches while my mind draws the visuals mentally to bring to life. We utilize historical events to paint the design, and those details will be provided on the haunted historic tours."

And yes, that also means Witchcraft & Voodoo in New Orleans of Second Life is Kaiden's loving tribute to his real life wife to be.

And while Kaiden himself has not yet visited her hometown — they're still managing a long distance relationship between the US and UK, in the run-up to their wedding — they will visit New Orleans together soon.
