Feline vs Fairy

Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting

Dicky Jackman posted this fabulous “Feline vs. Fairy” that has the look of an illustration in a book of fairy tales. It’s a beautiful composition. I love how the cat looks up towards the fairy, forming a diagonal line. It is simply beautiful.  But as much as it looks like a book illustration, it is not. That’s an animesh cat. He even credits the cat and provides a SLURL. That made me think of fairies.

The very first picture I took in Second Life was of my friend Gidge Uriza who loved being a fairy. Just to prove it, here it is. Yes, it took me a few months to learn that there were cameras in Second Life, one of the many things I missed out on by clicking on a teleport after just a few minutes on Orientation Island in 2007:

Mirror of my Soul

“Mirror of My Soul” is from Meriluu Lumoss’ lovely picture of her as a fairy looking at herself in a mirror, taking full advantage of Second Life’s new PBR technology. She seems as surprised by the mirror as a cat encountering a mirror for the first time.

Wain Littlepaws imagines a mythical moment in the “Discovery of Man.” To make it even more fun, we can see Cuckoo Chanel’s version here.

I love the many fairies of Second Life. They are often a cheerful and happy side of Second Life cosplay.

Have you been hoping your work might be featured someday? There are thousands of Second Life residents on Flickr and sometimes it’s worth it to promote yourself. There is a Flickr group for you to post your pictures and put yourself forward. Sometimes it just takes getting noticed. Tell your friends to do the same.

Cajsa’s Choices is devoted to unique, artistic, and innovative virtual world-based images and screenshots that showcase the medium as an art form and Second Life as a creative platform. (Generally not images that fit on this Bingo card.)

Cajsa Lilliehook is a sixteen year resident of Second Life, where she owned a photo studio, spent several years as a DJ at The Velvet, and for her first SL job, cleaned up prim trash. She co-founded and runs the It’s Only Fashion blog with her best friend Gidge Uriza. She also has a book review blog, Tonstant Weader Reviews and a cooking blog, Single Serving Recipes. She spends a lot of time researching and reporting on Republican sexual predators. In her first life, she is a retired grassroots leader who has worked for economic and social justice issues most of her life. She is also the minion of a cat named Nora.
