Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
Jamiencells Stories (GlitterPrincess Destiny) is an extraordinary artist in Second Life. “Butterflies Are – ‘Real’ is gorgeous. In a strange way, it makes me think of a Modigliani portrait, though without his trademark elongated face and neck. Her work is not in his style, but she captures a stillness in the way he did. This is a haunting portrait and the butterflies emerge from the shadow like ghostlings, perhaps the reason ‘Real’ is in single quotes. There is some craquelure on the face suggesting it may be old, perhaps from 1915?

“Only the…Birds…Know” is from five years ago, yet there is a similar idea. We focus on the portrait of a beautiful woman who is looking down and away from the title’s subject, the birds who subtly come out from the clouds as the butterflies emerge from the shadows. Of course, in both pictures, the avatar is the subject that we first see, but if we read the title, we must look at the birds, or the butterflies. I love how she affects our experience with just a few words

“The Perch” is another picture that makes me think of another artist who painted in the same timeframe as Modigliani, but one who had a very different style, the Art Deco artist Tamara de Lempicka. It’s the smoothness of the avatar’s lines as though she were outlined. I love this picture for its intense colors and how perfectly the sun through the window bisects the picture into two triangles. There is a lot of geometry in the picture and it captivates me.
Jamiencells Stories is an experimental artist which makes her photostream an exciting trip through various approaches to capturing her ideas. Her pictures range from pure romance that could have been created by a Pre-Rafaelite to modern poster art. She contains multitudes.

Cajsa Lilliehook is a sixteen year resident of Second Life, where she owned a photo studio, spent several years as a DJ at The Velvet, and for her first SL job, cleaned up prim trash. She co-founded and runs the It’s Only Fashion blog with her best friend Gidge Uriza. She also has a book review blog, Tonstant Weader Reviews and a cooking blog, Single Serving Recipes. She spends a lot of time researching and reporting on Republican sexual predators. In her first life, she is a retired grassroots leader who has worked for economic and social justice issues most of her life. She is also the minion of a cat named Nora.
