I saw this gorgeous pic from Fiona Fei marking the Lunar New Year on Facebook and it inspired me to look around and see what else people were doing to note the holiday. If her name sounds familiar, it’s probably due to visiting one of her art installations on Flickr where you can step into a Chinese Ink Brush painting. Taylor Wassep focused on the incoming Year of the Rabbit. In all, I counted 13 rabbits. I wonder if 13 is bad luck for people who live in East Asian countries? Maybe not. Thirteen rabbits or not, I love the happy, celebratory energy here. So long as that’s not rabbit stew!

I love how this picture from Doddy is able to mark the Year of the Rabbit through a thoroughly Western lens without a hairsbreadth of appropriation. The women are bunnies in the Playboy style and there are the bunnies, not in the stew pot. That’s Elmer.It overturns all expectations.

Valarie gives us a lovely romantic picture and a lot of information about the Year of the Rabbit. She explained that this is actually the Year of the Water Rabbit, then confessed her pic was unintentionally in the water. She also links back to the Year of the Tiger and Year of the Ox pics she took.

Francesca Pfeffer wisely recognizes that if there is an entire year dominated by rabbits, they need a base of operations. I love the mix of cute rabbits in the background, significantly more authoritative rabbits at the table. The carrot garden carpet slays me.
I love how folks in Second Life bring real life celebrations into Second Life. I am glad to see the many and widely varied celebrations of Lunar New Year. (Especially this particular year, which is sadly tinged with real life tragedy.)
One thing about Second Life photography: It’s always surprising.
