Isis Barom’s “Snow comes to Cherishville” is a pleasing introduction to the season, It has that storybook quality that suggests all stories have happy endings full of food, friends,, and family. “If you go down to the woods today” reminded me of blueberry picking, a true Teddy Bear’s Picnic.I loved picking blueberries but so do bears so we always made plenty of noise. The best place to pick was outside Pinewood, MN, where there had been a big fire, blueberries favorite place to grow. My parents’ friends who came up from Sioux City every summer went there to pick.. They each started picking on their own bush when her bush started shaking from him picking on the other side. She told him to go away and pick on another bush, but he kept on picking. She kept telling him to go away, louder and louder, and then she reached around the side of the bush to swat his arm and it was hairy! The bear she had just swatted was so shocked he took off running.

“Autumn Mist” is a beautiful example of the rule of thirds, the stones the bottom thirds and the foliage the top two-thirds. The slightly dark foliage suggests there might be an overgrown path or that someone has walked through pushing the tall grass aside. Isn’t it funny how beautiful decay can appear, particularly in a picture? We put so much effort into preventing decay, but when it happens, I am glad we can stop and admire it.
