How many hoped to read, read, read during the shutdown? Brandi has a confession after the cut.
In her post “Staying In,” Brandi confesses that despite her best intentions, she has not read a single book during her time alone. This is not an isolated phenomenon. I was struck by how far I have fallen behind my usual 200 books per year pace. I am 32 books behind schedule and falling more behind by the day. I thought it was a side effect of COVID-19, but then I learned I am not alone. Vox offered an explainer which is the same answer my doctor gave when I asked if inability to focus might be a post-illness effect. I shared this on Plurk and many others shared they, too, were not reading. I hope things turn around, because reading is one of my greatest pleasures.

I like Oh Look! It’s a Blog! From Brandi Monroe. The layout is simple with a floating masthead of text linking to contact and policy information and lists of designers, feeds, and events. There is a sidebar on the right that links to her Flickr, the items she does not change from post to post, search, and archives. The front page features one picture from a post and clicks through to her posts. There is a bit of text introducing the picture and then clear credits. The design is minimalist, easy to navigate, and makes the photos and information the star.
