Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
I was browsing through Euphoric Distraction’s Flickr photostream when I saw this picture that I was instantly drawn to. I love the characters and wondered if it was from Second Life or some video game. The title is a YouTube link, but it leads to an empty page with a stern “Video Unavailable” message. I don’t play any games more complex than Tetris (unlike Hamlet, I have never thought of SL as a game) so I really had no idea.
Reverse image search was no help, and I was getting tired.
On a whim I asked on Plurk, “Is this a game or Second Life?” Then I went to sleep.
While I was sleeping the Plurk Detective Squad got into high gear:
The first suggestion was from my friend Nimil, who suggested it might be from the game Kingdom Hearts and from browsing the Kingdom Hearts tag on Flickr, that made sense. They seem to pile on lots of characters from all over.
Then another friend, Roslin, recognized the Mayor of Halloween Town, a character in The Nightmare Before Christmas. She pointed to the graininess of the backdrop prim compared to the avatar. (Close-up above.) Another Plurk friend named “Allegory” said she was pretty sure it was a still from the movie, put on a prim, and the avatar posed in front. Nimil then pointed out that there are 497 results for “Nightmare Before Christmas” on Marketplace.
The conversation is a pleasure. It is always pleasant to see people who know their stuff and enjoy their craft discussing and debating with facts, details, and even a video of the Mayor.
And best of all, Euphoric Distraction confirmed it via a Second Life IM And lucky me woke up to my mystery solved. Sherlock Holmes never had it so good.
