Jamee Sandalwood takes magical pictures of the lakes and marshes of Second Life. “Mallard in Reeds” touched a soft spot in my heart. My brother-in-law was a talented artist who won a few annual duck stamp contests, the state, the federal, and a hunting organization contest.  It’s an ego thing since winners don’t get paid. If you don’t know what a duck stamp it, it is a beautiful painting on a stamp that hunters buy when they get their hunting license. He liked to varnish his paintings to give them a slightly aged look. My nephew has one that is so much like this one, if this were cropped closer, it is nearly uncanny. I mean, sure, duck, water, grass, it’s not impossible to look alike, but the color is what really makes me think of him.

“Floating Along” is so stunning. The water is beautiful, alive with light. The reeds are out of sight, but not out of mind as their shadows play across the water. I am obviously seeing things because when I look at this picture and follow the light arching right and down from the duck’s head and the shadows going to the left and down I see an outline in shadow and light of a heart. If you don’t see it, I don’t blame you. But it is one of those once you see it, you can’t not see it things.

“Waterfront Dining” is another lovely photo and isn’t it welcoming? Don’t you just want to eat right by the river? The water is moving too fast for mosquitoes and too shady for the horseflies to congregate, so it should be pretty comfortable. I do love eating on the water.
