Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting
SL style Flickr blogger Bayberry Lilliehook (no relation) was recently suggested by the inimitable Gross Rizzo whom I wrote about last year.
I can see why. They both are iconoclastic stylists who eschew the norms, choosing instead to stand out from the crowd.
Bayberry’s most recent fashion post, “Mother Trucker” (right) is a good introduction to her wild style that comes complete with the graffiti artist’s spray paint. In the description, she wrote that her outfit was inspired by the trucker hat. I hope it inspires some of you.
What's she's wearing:
- ardor*: Electronics Trucker (pink) on Marketplace
- A.TOMO – Radiant – SET5 at Kustom 9 ends August 10th
- A.TOMO – SOMUCH – SET8
- [ VERSOV ] LOLITOV_SNEAKERS (a group gift)
- Fashiowl – Spray Paint Can

Above: AI-generated image, and Yo Roo's final result
With continued controversy over AI programs being used to heavily enhance SL images, artist Yo Roo epicly posted her two cents with illustrated examples of her point:Because I have always tried to be transparent on my work, I am going to clear up any confusion that might be lingering about my usage of AI. And what I personally consider is worth being labeled/tagged as AI artwork, and why I have an issue with some forms of AI.This is my opinion, simple as that.I use greenscreen, everyone knows this by now. It's how I love to do photos personally. I respect the hell out of anyone that loves to do it inworld and all the shadows and light boxes, etc etc. I love you guys and your talent! It's not my preference for myself. I adore photoshop and light/color manipulation.I also love a good background, preferably one with Bokeh Lighting, and blurred, so the character is the main focus. I think it adds drama and concentration, not to mention a certain intensity. To get a good background that I want, I use either Adobe Stock Images (I have a subscription) or I make them in Midjourney AI (I also have a subscription).I have to prompt the right thing to get the right background I'm looking for if I choose to do it in the generator. And I do this because I am unwilling to go and pull random pictures off the Internet that don't belong to me. I use these pictures to create backgrounds for the greenscreen SL images I make. The images [here] show some of the AI generated backgrounds and the final products. But the AI background is only the start to the final product, she continues: -
Here's a valuable directory of XR programs offered by universities and colleges being compiled by the Virtual Worlds Museum (a proud sponsoring media partner to this blog). Definitely worth sharing for people planning to study the topic in school, and for finding out about programs near you:
Our goal is to provide a valuable resource for prospective students, educators, researchers, and XR enthusiasts who are eager to explore academic opportunities in immersive technologies. This initiative is part of our commitment to fostering the growth of the XR community and supporting the next generation of innovators in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality.
Peruse the directory here. It's very much a work in progress, so if there's any programs aren't yet listed that should be included, post info in comments or contact VWM directly here.

Danna Boo creates lovely and naturalistic pictures. I mean, look at “Too Far.” Her socks are dirty on the bottom. I love it! Her stream is a fun collection of her romantic life and her predilection for relaxing. There are pictures of her relaxing all over Second Life and I love it. I love a person who can relax.

I'm creating a Patreon article on the most innovative virtual worlds in VRChat, but this new one deserves its own post right now:
NeoWorlds, created by "Widget365", is a virtual world created within the virtual world of VRChat — which looks and plays like a low-res 2.5D virtual world of the early 2000s era. (Think Habbo Hotel, Club Penguin, and so on.)
There's even an old school web-based log-in page for NeoWorlds (cosmetic only), and a log-in experience which starts you in front of an old school, desktop PC and cabled mouse of the era (see video above).
All of which is so on-point visually, it induces nostalgia. Where it really gets mind-boggling is when you "log in" to NeoWorlds, and realize your VRChat avatar has been faithfully converted into a low pixel, 2.5D version of it — which you still control.
I just tried it myself, and my current VRChat avatar, a tribute to Domo-kun (long story), was suddenly waddling around before me in pixelated form. (See right.)
How did Widget create this? Read on:

Bunny Fun SL is a Second Life Flickr group created by Siobhán Muintir who must spend many hours moderating to keep her groups on topic. This untitled pic is from Fulvio Macchi and is both beautiful and amusing at the same time. The two animesh jackalopes are extraordinary and also make me think of the trope of the crazy uncle at holiday dinners. It’s the expression on their faces, they clearly subscribe to at least three conspiracy theories.

The new edition of Matthew Ball's landmark book, The Metaverse, is out today, and boasts a new subtitle: Where the original 2022 version was And How It Will Revolutionize Everything, this greatly expanded edition arrives with the more modest and targeted subtitle, Building the Spatial Internet.
"I never liked the [original] subtitle," Matt tells me. "It’s too generic, reinforces the hype cycle, and isn’t a fit for my style overall (or how people think of my work, I think)." With the new subtitle, "I can better explain the topic from the get go, while also better explaining what my book will reveal."
That includes adding "spatial", a term popularized with the launch of the Vision Pro, to the subtitle.
"[It] was important to capture those who believe in Apple’s marketed vision of the future, but don’t subscribe to Meta’s."
Since the first edition, of course, "Metaverse" itself has lost its luster as a buzzword in Silicon Valley, especially with Meta's efforts in that category floundering, and "cryptoverse" platforms since imploding. The book's new edition addresses that backlash — and the reasons behind it — head-on.
But can "The Metaverse" be recovered as a term, and restored to prominence? I'm obviously biased on the topic, not just due to my own book, but having worked in metaverse platforms since 2003, and seeing their socially transformational power first-hand for so long.
Matthew Ball was one of the key individuals to make the Metaverse mainstream, so is among the best people in the world to answer that question.
Here's part 1 of our very deep dive on that topic and his newly revised book. And if you enjoy the read, please consider subscribing to my Patreon to support content like this, along with exclusive benefits.

Darcey Blakewell’s “Midnite Texts” is telling a story. I’m not sure what story, but perhaps because I love mysteries, I imagine her as a bold private detective whose caustic wit would keep readers in stitches while aggravating the secondary characters like the police, suspects, even clients. There’s a car driving off, setting the mood of mystery. I love it.
