Nimue Green’s intense black and white photostream is filled with photos such as this gorgeous “Vintage” The lines of the street draw us into the picture. I know it almost seems real but it is on the sim Sobe (click here to teleport). The sun is bright, the shadows are crisp and black. The contrast is rich and intense. It’s marvelous.

Appearing in his original Philip Linden avatar with a notably sparkly upgrade, here's a lightly edited cut of my fireside chat with Philip Rosedale and Adam Frisby on "The Metaverse as a Shared Imagination", hosted in Breakroom from Sine Wave Entertainment (a media partner to this blog). Yes, Sine Wave CPO Adam is the rabbit.

I'm highly biased but I think this was one of the most interesting metaverse conversations in quite awhile, covering the alchemy of user creativity, VR adoption, NFTs, and lessons that Second Life can teach the current generation of metaverse platforms.

Just in Time for Tokyo, Dive and Compete in the Really Olympic Swimming Pool — With Wet Hair, Skin, and Clothing When You Get Out of the Water!

The Really Olympic Swimming Pool is a new product from New World Notes sponsor Really Needy HUD, which turns activity in Second Life into a fun Sims-like roleplaying game. As you probably guessed, any swimming in the pool is tracked as exercise on the Really Needy HUD. As creator Grace7 Ling explains, you just need to click on the pool’s life buoy, to get started:

“By clicking the Swim HUD it will auto attach as a temporary attachment, and your avatar can swim forward, back, up, down, and also make a jump dive. It also tracks how long you are in the pool’s mesh/prim water and communicates to the Fitness script in the Really Needy HUD”.

As befitting style-conscious SL users, the pool also enables users to look wet, when they get out:

I love this picture from Adam Cayden’s photostream. I love how he shot it on an angle so there are these diagonal lines going to the upper right while his avatar goes to the upper left. I love the blue paint fading away to brown with his brown clothing and guitar creating this marvelous color story. It’s beautifully composed. Add to that the fun of following a sim explorer from place to place, all with tunes and SLurls, and his stream is a delight.

Physics-Based Remote-Controlled Toy Cars Are the Latest Amazing Thing in VRChat

Remote control cars for VRChat players are the latest amazing user-made innovation in VRChat, and creator Chris B. is not just content to make them amazingly physics-based, but she even shot this pitch-perfect Saturday morning cartoons-style commercial-but-with-furries to promote them too. As the ad mentions, they run on VRChat's internal Udon scripting system (specifically, the C#-to-Udon compiler); and as you can tell by the way they move and bounce, the cars make use of Unity's existing Newtownian mechanics which is also part of VRChat:

"Unity's physics engine has a lot of really neat features that are under-utilized in VRChat," as Chris puts it to me. "Stuff like ragdolls are perfectly possible, but nobody does them for some reason."

Lien Lowe’s “Mousehole” is a great example of using the foreground as a frame. The poppies circle the tree and also provide a sense of perspective. It’s a beautiful landscape. There is this slightly golden tint to everything giving it a feeling of age that makes it feel almost like a painting.
